Giancarlo Stanton has come up big for the Yankees in a critical Game 3 of the ALDS. His eighth-inning home run gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead, his third hit of the night, as New York looks to close out the Royals. But Stanton’s impact started earlier, when he drove in the Yankees’ first run in the fourth inning, setting the tone for a key night of offense.
Stanton’s early and late contributions
In the fourth inning, Stanton delivered a crucial double to center field, driving in the Yankees’ first run and eventually coming around to score, giving New York a 2-0 advantage. However, the Royals managed to tie the game later on, setting the stage for Stanton’s heroics in the eighth.
With the game knotted at 2-2, Stanton blasted a go-ahead home run, putting the Yankees back in front. As of this publication, the Yankees lead 3-2, though the game is still ongoing.
Aaron Judge’s frustrating night
Earlier in the game, Aaron Judge found himself at the center of controversy. In the seventh inning, Judge was called out on a check swing, a decision that left him and Yankees fans fuming. Replays appeared to show that Judge didn’t fully break his wrists, but first base umpire Mark Carlson ruled that he had gone too far. Judge, who is now 0-for-4 on the night and 1-for-11 in the series, was left shaking his head after the strikeout, adding to his struggles this postseason.
Jazz Chisholm booed by Royals Fans
Royals fans didn’t forget Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s comment after Game 2, where he said Kansas City “got lucky.” From his pregame introduction to every at-bat, Chisholm faced a chorus of boos. The loudest came when he grounded out in the second inning, as the sellout crowd made sure he heard their disapproval throughout the game.
With Giancarlo Stanton’s late-game heroics, the Yankees secured a 3-2 victory, taking control of the series. Stanton’s clutch performance proved pivotal, as the Bronx Bombers continue to fight for a strong finish to the season.
Up next
With another win under their belt, the Yankees will continue their pursuit of advancing in the series, facing the Royals again on Thursday at 8 PM in Kansas City.
