The New York Yankees are poised for a pivotal Game 5 in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) tonight, with manager Aaron Boone making a small adjustment to the lineup. The Bronx Bombers hold a 3-1 series lead over the Cleveland Guardians and can clinch a World Series berth with a win at Progressive Field.
Giancarlo Stanton moves to cleanup spot
Giancarlo Stanton, who has been on a tear throughout the playoffs, moves up to the cleanup spot for the first time this postseason. He previously batted fifth but has been one of the Yankees’ most productive hitters, launching home runs in three of the first four games. His latest was a three-run blast in Game 4, helping the Yankees secure an 8-6 win and putting them in a strong position to close out the series. The lineup change reflects Boone’s confidence in Stanton’s power, especially as the team faces Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee.
Jazz Chisholm, who batted cleanup in Game 4, will drop to the fifth spot. This slight adjustment aims to maintain balance in the lineup, with both Stanton and Chisholm providing key offense.
The Yankees’ lineup is otherwise unchanged. Gleyber Torres remains the leadoff hitter, followed by Juan Soto, who has been another postseason standout. Soto hit a two-run homer in the first inning of Game 4, setting the tone early. Aaron Judge, the Yankees’ captain, will continue to bat third, anchoring the middle of the order. Austin Wells, who has struggled in the postseason with just three hits, remains behind the plate and hit his first playoff homer in Game 4.
On the mound for the Yankees is left-hander Carlos Rodon, pitching on regular rest. Rodon will look to bounce back after a shaky start earlier in the series and deliver a strong performance to help his team clinch the ALCS.
First pitch for Game 5 is scheduled for 8:08 p.m., with the Yankees just one win away from securing their spot in the World Series. If they succeed, it will mark another step toward restoring their storied postseason legacy.
