One former New York Yankees outfielder, Harrison Bader, finds himself in the free-agent market, seeking a new team after an eventful journey in the 2023 season. Acquired by the Yankees in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022, Bader was later placed on waivers by New York in 2023. The Cincinnati Reds claimed him off waivers towards the end of the 2023 season, and he subsequently became a free agent.

Giants and Padres eyeing Harrison Bader

Now, as the offseason unfolds, it appears that the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres are both expressing interest in securing Harrison Bader‘s services. According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, both teams are actively exploring center-field options, with Bader being a notable contender. Morosi acknowledged the report by Jon Heyman, highlighting the robust market for another center fielder, Jung-Hoo Lee.

The Giants, having been previously linked to Chicago Cubs standout Cody Bellinger, seem to be in the mix for Bader if they miss out on Bellinger. This suggests that Bader is on the radar as a potential addition to the Giants’ outfield lineup.

Bader’s allure

On the other hand, the Padres find themselves in need of outfield reinforcements following the trade of Juan Soto to the Yankees. Bader emerges as a viable and cost-effective option for the Padres to bolster their outfield presence. In the 2023 season, Bader showcased his versatility, appearing in 98 games between New York and Cincinnati. During this time, he demonstrated his offensive capabilities by hitting seven home runs, driving in 40 runs, stealing 20 bases, and maintaining a slash line of .232/.274/.348.

Despite being 29 years old, Bader brings an element of intrigue to the free-agent market. Notably, he already boasts a Gold Glove Award, showcasing his prowess as a skilled outfielder. As both the Giants and Padres actively pursue outfield upgrades, Bader’s potential addition to either team adds an interesting dynamic to the unfolding narrative of the MLB offseason. His age, defensive skills, and past achievements make him a player to watch, as teams look to solidify their rosters for the upcoming season. The competition between the Giants and Padres for Bader’s signature further underscores the perceived value and impact he could bring to a new team.
