Not too long ago, people thought that Gary Sanchez was one of the best catchers in Major League Baseball. But the two-time All-Star is no longer in the league. The 30-year-old played in the MLB for seven years and hit .225 with 154 home runs and 401 RBI.

Gary Sanchez signed a deal on Tuesday with Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Republic league, which was announced on Twitter by Escogido Baseball Club. Jeurys Familia, who used to be a reliever for the New York Mets, has also agreed to join the team.

The big hitter made his debut with the New York Yankees in 2015. He played there for six years. In 2017, Gary Sanchez hit .278 with 33 home runs and 90 RBI for the Bombers. He was named an All-Star again in 2019 but was traded to the Minnesota Twins after the 2021 season. Before he left Minnesota, the catcher hit .205 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 128 games.

He became a free agent after the 2022 season. This winter, Gary Sanchez was linked to a number of MLB teams. Sanchez was said to be in talks with teams like the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Angels, but no deal was made with either team.

Gary Sanchez’s best years behind him?

Gary Sanchez hit 33 home runs in 2017 and 34 home runs in 2019. In both years, he made the All-Star team. After the 2019 season, however, his production went down, and the Yankees decided to go in a different direction.

Now, he’s going back to the Dominican Republic, where he hopes to get games to play and his career back on track. Still, it seemed likely that the two-time All-Star would find a place with a team in the big leagues.

Gary Sanchez’s MLB return likely

At the moment, he is getting ready to play baseball in the Dominican Professional Baseball League. Gary Sanchez could just be playing in the winter leagues for now, but it’s clear that he just wants to play baseball.

Gary Sanchez is only 30 years old and he could still play in MLB again in the future. Teams will probably keep an eye on how he does in DR. After all, Sanchez is one of the few catchers who can hit as hard as he can.
