As Gleyber Torres prepares for the upcoming offseason, he’s well aware of the pressures that come at this this time The New York Yankees shortstop, once viewed as a cornerstone of the team’s future, struggled through one of the toughest seasons of his career in 2024.

Gleyber Torres hit just .257 with 15 home runs across 154 games, a significant drop from his previous averages. His fielding also raised concerns, with a career-high 18 errors and a -7 outs above average.

In a candid conversation with The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty, Gleyber Torres didn’t hold back, calling 2024 “one of the most important years for my career.” It’s a season that could define his future, and Torres is already showing a different mindset in October.

Reflecting on the Yankees’ impressive 34 walks in just five playoff games, Torres emphasized this Tuesday the team’s shift in approach: “Egos and personal numbers stay in the regular season. We had many conversations before the [ALDS], and we’re trying to be more patient than ever.”

Manager Aaron Boone knows the mental toll that looms for players like Torres, especially with free agency on the horizon. “The game gets real hard and mental, but those little things can start to snowball and get you clicking,” Boone noted, highlighting the fine line between pressure and performance.

As Gleyber Torres navigates the postseason, his resurgence in the second half of the year could be the turning point. Whether it secures his future in the Bronx or opens a door to a fresh start elsewhere, this October could define where his career goes next.f of the season could determine whether he continues his career in the Bronx—or starts anew elsewhere.
