In anticipation of the 2024 Major League Baseball offseason, the rumor mill is buzzing with the potential relocation of former New York Yankees utility player, Brandon Drury. This upcoming offseason promises to be one for the books, with several high-profile players poised to switch teams. The 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline unfolded at a leisurely pace, partly due to the increased number of teams harboring playoff aspirations, thanks to an extra playoff spot in both leagues. Nevertheless, the forthcoming offseason is expected to be a whirlwind of activity.
Brandon Drury and the MLB offseason buzz
Renowned ESPN insider Jeff Passan has already stoked the fires of speculation, presenting a list of players he believes could be prime trade candidates on the “Baseball Is Dead” podcast. Among those names is Brandon Drury, the versatile player with a history in pinstripes.
Passan, known for his meticulous approach to baseball analysis, shared his enthusiasm for the impending offseason: “I’m extremely excited as I’m putting together my super nerdy spreadsheet that I have all year. I have a spreadsheet that says trade candidates, and in trade candidates, it says Juan Soto, Tyler Glasnow, Pete Alonso, Shane Bieber, Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt, Brandon Drury, Mike Trout, Alex Verdugo, (and) Willy Adames. There are a lot of big names who could be moved this offseason.”
Brandon Drury, throughout his baseball career, has worn the jersey of multiple teams, but in 2023, he found himself donning the uniform of the Los Angeles Angels. He certainly made the most of his tenure with the Angels, impressing with a slash line of .258/.302/.482, accompanied by 24 home runs and 80 runs batted in across 122 games. While the suitors for Drury’s services remain shrouded in mystery, a return to the Yankees is not out of the question. The Yankees, perennially active during the offseason, might see value in reacquiring a player who, albeit briefly, has been part of their organization and possesses the ability to contribute across various positions. Moreover, Drury’s contract for the 2024 season is remarkably affordable at just $8.5 million, affording the Yankees greater financial maneuverability in other areas.
Although a trade to the Bronx might not be the likeliest outcome, the buzz surrounding Brandon Drury’s potential move hints at an exciting offseason ahead. As teams gear up for the wheeling and dealing that characterizes the MLB offseason, Drury’s name is just one among many expected to feature prominently in trade talks.
