Carlos Rodon, making his long-awaited return to the mound after recovering from an injury, following his debut game for the New York Yankees. Though fans gave good reviews to his outing despite the Yankees’ loss, the starter doesn’t feel that his debut is satisfactory to him.

The left-handed pitcher had not played a regular season game since September of the previous year due to a forearm strain, adding to the anticipation surrounding his first appearance in Yankees pinstripes.

Rodon’s debut game against the Chicago Cubs showed glimpses of his talent and potential impact on the team. He started the game strongly, retiring the first six Cubs batters he faced. However, as the game progressed, Rodon faced some challenges. He struggled with his command at times, issuing two walks, one of which resulted in a run scored by the Cubs in the fourth inning, giving them a 2-0 lead.

Fan reactions over Carlos Rodon’s debut

If there was someone who was eager for Carlos Rodon’s return, it was his wife, Ashley Rodon. She began by saying that the day belonged to Carlos Rodon, even going as far as criticizing a moment in the game, showing her anticipation for her husband’s comeback.

The fans quickly responded to her posts, wishing Carlos Rodon good luck on his return.

Despite these setbacks, Rodon displayed flashes of his ability and limited the damage caused by the Cubs’ hitters. He allowed four hits during his 5.1 innings on the mound, including a solo home run by Cody Bellinger and an RBI single by Nico Hoerner. Overall, Rodon showed efficiency, throwing 69 pitches before being lifted by Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Despite the outcome of the game—a 3-0 victory for the Cubs— Aaron Boone praised Rodon’s performance, commending his execution and the effectiveness of his pitches. The manager acknowledged the aggressive approach of the Cubs’ hitters and credited Rodon for performing well under the circumstances.

Carlos Rodon himself acknowledged his mixed feelings about the outing. He recognized that his fastball was effective but admitted that the Cubs managed to make some solid contact against him. The left-hander expressed a desire for better results and acknowledged that there is room for improvement in his upcoming starts.

For Rodon, the game held special significance as it marked his return to the field after a prolonged absence. He was grateful for the opportunity to pitch in the iconic Yankee Stadium and appreciated the support from the crowd, especially during the first inning of his debut.

Although Rodon’s debut did not result in a victory for the Yankees, it was an encouraging step forward for the left-hander after his injury layoff. As he continues to regain his form and build his pitch count, Rodon will be a valuable addition to the Yankees’ rotation, bringing his talent and experience to help the team in their quest for success throughout the season.
