As the Minnesota Twins continue their remarkable postseason journey, the name on everyone’s lips is Carlos Correa. This star shortstop’s performance has been nothing short of spectacular, and his recent feat has elevated him to a level that even Yankees fans can’t ignore. Especially after breaking a record held by none other than Derek Jeter, the legendary figure of the Pinstripes.

What happened?

In Game 2 of the American League Division Series, Correa’s brilliance was on full display. He not only helped the Twins secure a crucial victory but also etched his name in MLB postseason history. Going 3-4 at the plate with three RBIs and a walk against his former team, the Houston Astros, Correa’s impact was undeniable. Half of the Twins’ six runs in that game were courtesy of his bat.

However, what truly sets Carlos Correa‘s achievement apart is his place in the record books. His three RBIs in that game brought his total postseason RBIs to a staggering 63, tying him for third place in MLB playoff history with none other than Derek Jeter and David Ortiz. This is a milestone that transcends team loyalties and demands respect from even the most ardent Yankees supporters.

Before that fateful night, Correa trailed behind Jeter and Ortiz by just one RBI, sitting on the cusp of joining their ranks. But with a clutch performance that showcased his skill and composure under pressure, he not only equaled their records but surpassed them with a crucial single in the fifth inning.

This accomplishment didn’t go unnoticed, as FOX Sports’ Tom Verducci shared the news with Correa on live television. The Puerto Rican star’s reaction spoke volumes about the significance of the moment, and it’s a memory that will be etched in the minds of baseball fans for years to come.

Correa’s journey to this point was marked by a tumultuous offseason that saw him explore various contract options. After opting out of his initial contract with the Twins, he flirted with the Giants and the Mets before ultimately returning to Minnesota on a six-year deal worth up to $270 million.

While his regular-season performance in 2023 was below his usual standards, Correa has come alive in the playoffs. His remarkable .533 batting average, .588 on-base percentage, and .733 slugging percentage in the postseason demonstrate his ability to rise to the occasion.

Even for Yankees fans who hold Derek Jeter in the highest regard, it’s impossible to deny the extraordinary talent and resilience that Carlos Correa has displayed. As the Twins continue their playoff run, Correa’s name will remain at the forefront of conversations, solidifying his place in baseball history alongside legends like Jeter.
