With the New York Yankees trailing 3-0 in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Fall Classic returns to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. Opening games in Los Angeles saw sky-high ticket prices, with resale numbers reflecting excitement over this historic matchup. StubHub officials initially predicted a record-breaking event for ticket sales, but prices have softened as the Yankees now face potential elimination.
Dodgers’ lead prompts early fan exits, slashes ticket prices for Game 4
Ahead of Game 3 on Monday, resale tickets reached as high as $35,000. However, with the Dodgers taking a commanding lead, many fans left early, sensing the game’s disappointing trajectory. Ticket resale prices for Game 4 have since dropped, with average prices on StubHub falling about nine percent from Monday to Tuesday. As of Tuesday morning, single tickets could be found for as low as $500—a 20 percent decrease from the previous day, according to StubHub.
This downward trend aligns with a similar drop before Game 3, when prices fell roughly 10 percent between Friday and Monday. By then, the cheapest single tickets were listed at around $700. StubHub’s spokesperson, Adam Budelli, noted that such fluctuations are common as series outcomes become clearer.
“Somewhat as expected, there’s typically a softening in the market when one team takes a 2-0 lead,” Budelli said before Game 3. While prices had dipped slightly, average resale ticket prices still hovered around $1,700 for the series. Over the weekend, ticket sales for Games 3 through 5 at Yankee Stadium rose by 30 percent as fans anticipated the potentially decisive home games.
Data updated on Tuesday reflected sustained interest, with StubHub reporting a 26 percent surge in tickets sold for Game 4—the highest 24-hour increase since the previous Tuesday. However, the company did not disclose specific sales numbers. Budelli emphasized that while general admission ticket prices had softened, demand for premium seats remained strong.
According to The Athletics, for Games 1 through 3, average ticket prices on StubHub ranged from $1,457 to $1,839. As of Tuesday morning, projections for upcoming games held steady, with average resale prices estimated at $1,640 for Game 4, $1,831 for Game 5, $1,835 for Game 6, and $1,820 for Game 7. The elevated prices are notable when compared to last year’s World Series, where the Texas Rangers faced the Arizona Diamondbacks with an average resale price of $884. For context, the 2022 Astros-Phillies series saw average prices around $1,303.
Budelli attributed the heightened prices to the series’ fanbase reach. “This is really driven by two major fanbases, and as the series progresses, prices tend to rise,” he said.
For Game 5, tentative single tickets started around $600 on StubHub and $650 on TickPick, another resale platform. Budelli suggested fans buy early, given that prices could spike if the series stretches to a Game 7, potentially making it one of the most expensive baseball games on record.
