Alvarez Hits a Home Run to Complete the Sweep over Yankees
The Astros finished a doubleheader sweep of the Yankees on Thursday with a 7-5 victory in Game 2. Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman both homered and drove in five runs.
For the Astros, Chas McCormick added a two-run home run as they won the season series 5-2 against baseball’s best team.
Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer off Brandon Bielak in Game 2 to cut the lead to 7-5 with one out in the 9th.

With two outs in the first, Alvarez, hit his 27th homer, giving Houston an early lead. The Astros made it 2-0 after Bregman connected off Domingo Germán.
With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs in the second, Alvarez score two more runs and hold the lead to 4-0. Bregman singled bringing Alvarez home and making the score 5-0.
Judge walked with one out in the third before Torres’ home run cut the Yankees‘ lead to three.

The doubleheader following the All-Star break was supposed to help make up for a series that had been postponed due to the lockout. On June 30, Houston managed to win the very first game of the series.
Germán, who missed the first half of the season due to a shoulder injury, allowed 6 hits and 5 runs in 3 innings in his season debut.
Houston starter Luis Garcia (8-5) won his fifth straight victory after losing his past 4 decisions.
McCormick’s home run off JP Sears extended the lead to 7-2 in the sixth inning.
