The New York Yankees hold the title of the best team in the MLB right now, boasting a record of 43-19. Michael Tonkin summed up his current team in three words: “This is awesome,” vividly describing the success the Yankees have experienced so far this season.

“This is the dream, being on a team like this. Winning is fun, and being here is special. ” Michael Tonkin said.

What’s happening with the Yankees?

The New York Yankees secured their sixth straight win last Tuesday, defeating the Minnesota Twins 5-1. With a record of 43-19, the Yankees have won 17 of their last 21 games, tying with Philadelphia for the best record in the majors.

Aaron Judge and Juan Soto have been leading the Yankees, but the entire team has contributed significantly. In the latest game, Luis Gil was the standout, pitching six scoreless innings to win his seventh straight start. Aaron Judge continued his impressive form with a two-run double, leading the Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Twins.

After the game, Michael Tonkin expressed his excitement about playing for the Yankees and how far the team can go this season.

The right-handed reliever expressed his gratitude to NY Post for being part of the Yankees, especially after a tumultuous April. On April 25, just three days after his second release from the Mets, the Yankees claimed him. Since then, the 34-year-old has been a steady presence on the team, which boasts the best record in the American League.

Michael Tonkin has performed admirably, allowing just two earned runs over 15 innings and striking out 11 batters as of Tuesday. He did not pitch in the Yankees’ 5-1 victory over the Twins that night.

“I feel like I’m throwing the ball well and getting into a groove,” Michael Tonkin said. “Being on a strong team where the starters consistently go deep makes my job easier and more enjoyable.”

His debut with the Yankees didn’t go as planned, resulting in a loss in an extra-inning game against the Brewers on April 26. The Twins designated him after a similar brief stint, but Tonkin didn’t let these setbacks deter him.

Michael Tonkin was coming off a solid season with the NL East champion Braves, where he pitched a career-high 80 innings in relief with a 4.28 ERA. He signed a one-year deal with the Mets, only to find himself seeking a new team by April 5.

“Obviously, it’s frustrating. My goal is to be a major league pitcher. Last year, I threw 80 innings for a team that won 104 games, proving I can contribute. A few rough outings, though, and you’re out.”
