Anthony Rizzo‘s return to the New York Yankees lineup appears imminent after he hit a solo home run during a minor league rehab game on Tuesday night. Yankees manager Aaron Boone, in his weekly Talkin’ Yanks interview, indicated that Rizzo could rejoin the team sooner than initially expected.
Anthony Rizzo edges closer to Yankees return
In his third rehab game with Double-A Somerset, Anthony Rizzo crushed a home run, showing signs that he’s getting back into form. It’s not the first time he’s made an impact since starting his rehab assignment. On Sunday, he began his stint in Portland, Maine, where he went 0-for-4 but drew a couple of walks and scored a run. Rizzo is set to take the field again on Wednesday as he continues his journey back to the Bronx.
Aaron Boone, the Yankees manager, shared his thoughts on Anthony Rizzo’s progress just hours before his home run. He was cautious but optimistic, noting that Rizzo still needs time to fully recover, particularly since he’s only been playing as a designated hitter so far.
“We’ll see because he hasn’t played the field yet. That’s what they’re holding off on a little bit, so we’ll see,” Boone said during his weekly interview with Talkin’ Yanks on Tuesday afternoon. “I don’t want to shortchange it or get ahead of it. He’s playing today and Wednesday, and we’ll reevaluate where he is and what we need to do.”
Before his injury, Anthony Rizzo was having a tough season, batting just .223 with an OPS of .630, eight home runs, and 28 RBIs over 70 games. His struggles at the plate led to questions about his future with the Yankees, but his recent performances in the minors suggest he’s determined to turn things around.
Ian Hamilton making strides in rehab
Anthony Rizzo isn’t the only Yankee on the mend. Reliever Ian Hamilton is also working his way back, and he’s been impressive in his rehab stint with Somerset. Over two games, Hamilton has pitched 2.1 innings without giving up a hit or walk, striking out six batters.
As the Yankees look to finish the season strong, the potential return of Anthony Rizzo and Hamilton could provide a much-needed boost to the team. Fans are eager to see them back in pinstripes, hoping they can help lead the Yankees to a strong finish.
