New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been suspended one-game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions during Thursday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays. Major League Baseball announced the disciplinary action on Friday, citing Chisholm’s “conduct, including his violation of Major League Baseball’s Social Media Policy for Major League Players.” However, he’ll play the game in Friday’s game as he is appealing the decision.
The suspension follows a heated exchange in the seventh inning. After striking out on a borderline 3-2 pitch, Chisholm turned and argued with home plate umpire John Bacon. He was quickly ejected for his reaction, which included shouting and gesturing toward the strike zone. Yankees manager Aaron Boone stepped in but not before Jazz Chisholm was tossed.
The incident didn’t end there. Minutes after his ejection, Chisholm posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Not even f—king close!!!!!” in reference to the pitch. Although the post was deleted shortly after, screenshots circulated widely on social media and likely played a role in MLB’s disciplinary decision.
Boone: Jazz Chisholm will appeal

Speaking with reporters before Friday’s game, Boone confirmed the suspension and fine but said Chisholm will appeal.
“He’s appealing, so he’s available to play,” Boone said. “We’ll let that process play out.”
Under MLB rules, players who appeal suspensions remain eligible to play until the appeal is resolved. There is no immediate timeline for when the league will hear Jazz Chisholm’s appeal.
Jazz Chisholm remains in the Yankees’ lineup for Friday’s game against the Rays.
