The Yankees’ 2022 MLB season is best summed as Aaron Judge‘s historic year. The power hitter blasted 62 home runs, surpassing the 61-year-old record set by Yankees legend Roger Maris. Aaron Judge topped the league in all batting categories except one. This led many Yankees fans to expect another stupendous contribution from him in 2023 and so far, his pre-season preparation reflects that.
Following the season, Aaron Judge was elected AL MVP and signed a nine-year, $360 million deal, becoming the highest-paid position player in history.
Luis Arraez, the second baseman for the Minnesota Twins, kept Aaron Judge from winning the AL Triple Crown. If he had, the 6-foot-7 outfielder would have been the first player to do that since Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers did it in 2012.
Aaron Judge’s unbelievable 2022 campaign put the hopes of the whole world on his shoulders. Let’s look at how the big guy is doing in spring training so far.
Aaron Judge has only played in six of the 14 Grapefruit League games that the New York Yankees have played this spring. This gives the 30-year-old a chance to rest up for the upcoming season and gives the Yankees a chance to give some younger players some much-needed experience.
So far this spring, Aaron Judge has six hits out of 11 at-bats. All of Judge’s RBIs and home runs so far have come from a 3-run home run he hit against the Pittsburgh Pirates on March 7. He has also hit two doubles.
Aaron Judge is almost certain to start in the right field for the team. Manager Aaron Boone, on the other hand, has used the Grapefruit League to try out different players at the position. One such big name is Dominican prospect Jasson Dominguez, who is 20 years old.
A good player like Aaron Judge doesn’t have to worry about exhibition games. Right now, his main goal should be to stay as healthy as possible so that he can help his team as much in 2023 as he did in 2022. Judge will probably be happy to miss a few spring games so that he is ready to go by the end of the month.
