After a week of cautious monitoring, the New York Yankees are gearing up to welcome back their star player, Aaron Judge.
Update on Aaron Judge’s return
During Monday’s spring training matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies, Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that the team’s captain is on track to return for Wednesday’s clash against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boone shared this promising update while chatting with Ryan Ruocco and Jack Curry on the YES Network broadcast.
Ahead of Monday’s game, Judge was slated for on-field batting practice, although he ultimately opted out, as reported by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Instead, he focused on outfield drills.
The Yankees‘ medical team has been handling Aaron Judge’s abdominal issues with utmost care ever since the 32-year-old powerhouse first reported discomfort. Although MRI results revealed no significant issues, given the connection between the affected abs and the oblique muscle, known for causing extended periods of sidelined play, the team is understandably proceeding cautiously.
Aaron Judge’s road to Opening Day: Caution amidst confidence
Over the weekend, Aaron Judge was sidelined for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, he maintained his regular training routine, engaging in cage hitting and outfield drills, while both Boone and the Yankees consistently reassured fans of his well-being.
The ultimate aim is to have Aaron Judge ready for Opening Day on March 28 in Houston. His absence from 42 games last season dealt a significant blow to the Yankees, underscoring the importance of his presence on the field. Consequently, the team is exercising caution, refraining from fielding their key player in non-essential matches, particularly after losing ace pitcher Gerrit Cole to injury for an estimated month or two.
With this latest update on Aaron Judge’s condition, the Yankees are increasingly confident in his availability for Opening Day. With nine games left in the spring training schedule, including a two-game exhibition series in Mexico City, Judge is likely to receive a final tune-up in one or two matches before the regular season kicks off.
