With 66 percent of votes, Aaron Judge won the 2022 Sporting News MLB Player of the Year award. Shohei Ohtani, who give a contest to Aaron Judge for the AL MVP award, came second with a paltry 18 percent of votes.
The 2022 MLB season was full of interesting moments and performances that set records. There was also a lot of drama, and all of these things are reflected in the winners of this year’s Sporting News MLB awards.
In 2022, Aaron Judge was the best hitter any team could ask for. He not only broke the American League record for home runs in a single season, but he also had MVP-like numbers in every category. He had more runs, RBIs, walks, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, OPS+, and total bases than anyone else in the league. Also, don’t forget that he almost won the Triple Crown.
In the end, he got a 10.6 bWAR and won the Sporting News MLB Player of the Year award by a large margin.
In a poll of 360 players, Judge got 66 percent of the votes, which was a lot more than Shohei Ohtani, who got about 18 percent and came in second.
Even though seven players got at least one vote in this category, the vast majority of voters thought that 2022 was the Aaron Judge Show.
Since 1936, the Sporting News has given out awards for MLB. In September and early October, the annual survey of MLB players, managers, and executives was done to find the Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
Will this make Aaron Judge as the AL MVP award a foregone conclusion?
