New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is contemplating significant changes to his lineup, with stars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto at the forefront of the potential shakeup, and Jose Trevino’s role set to expand upon his return from the injured list. This comes as the team has surged to an 8-2 record over their last 10 games, but Boone is eager to maximize his roster’s offensive and defensive capabilities.

Boone eyes bold lineup shake-up

Boone is considering a bold reconfiguration that would see Juan Soto in the leadoff spot and Judge batting second. This would mark a departure from the traditional lineup structure, reflecting Boone’s confidence in his players’ abilities to set the tone early and drive in crucial runs. However, Boone has yet to finalize this strategy, as he continues to weigh his options.

The possible changes are further complicated by the return of Giancarlo Stanton, who recently rejoined the lineup after an injury. Stanton’s presence offers Boone additional flexibility and power, which could impact the final lineup configuration. Boone acknowledges the importance of maintaining the Yankees’ recent success, particularly with Alex Verdugo excelling as the leadoff hitter. The manager is focused on balancing the lineup’s effectiveness while exploring new strategies to keep the team on top.

In addition to the potential changes involving Aaron Judge and Soto, Boone also addressed the catching situation, specifically the impending return of Jose Trevino. Boone confirmed that Austin Wells, who has stepped up in Trevino’s absence, will continue to “garner a lot of playing time” even after Trevino’s return.

Boone emphasized that while they want to be mindful of Wells’ workload, especially as the season progresses, the young catcher has “earned more and more reps.” Trevino will still see playing time, but Boone’s comments suggest that Wells’ role is set to expand, underscoring the confidence the Yankees have in the rookie’s development.

As Boone navigates these potential lineup adjustments, the Yankees’ strategy for the stretch run remains a key focus. Whether it’s a revamped batting order or a reshuffled catching rotation, Boone’s decisions in the coming weeks could play a crucial role in determining the Yankees’ postseason trajectory.
