Trevino nearing return

Catcher Jose Trevino is edging closer to a return from a quadriceps strain. Boone revealed that Trevino might play in a rehab game as early as Sunday. “If not Sunday, then Tuesday at the latest,” Boone stated. In other news, right-hander Clarke Schmidt threw a live batting practice session on Tuesday, with Anthony Rizzo among the hitters facing him. Schmidt, who has been working his way back from injury, reported feeling “great” after the session. “I felt really good out there. My arm is strong, and my pitches had good movement,” Schmidt told Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. Schmidt is scheduled for another live BP session on Saturday, and Boone mentioned that the next step could be either another live BP or a rehab assignment.
