ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Manager Arron Boone was not among his players to celebrate when the resurgent Yankees defeated the Rays at Tropicana Field on Sunday. He was ejected after an argument over catcher’s interference.

In the bottom of the fifth inning during the Yankees’ victory over the Rays, 2-1, the manager received his marching order from the umpire. The Yankees were leading 1-0 when Boone was ejected from the game for arguing a catcher’s interference call that had been made against Kyle Higashioka.

The Yankees were under the impression that the ball had hit the screen behind the plate before Christian Bethancourt was able to catch it after DJ LeMahieu grounded out.

After challenging the play, which was upheld, the Yankees were unable to ask for a review of the call that gave first base to Taylor Walls due to catcher’s interference because they had already challenged the play.

After getting into an argument with the home plate umpire, Vic Carapazza, an exasperated Boone, was ejected from the game for the seventh time this season as he headed back to the dugout.

Since the Yankees are in a mess right now, Aaron Boone has seen a lot of bad baseball.
