The failure of Frankie Montas to boost the Yankees’ on-field prospects continues to draw criticism. According to ESPN’s MLB analyst Bradford Doolittle, his acquisition is a “disaster” for New York.
Doolittle considers Montas trade as an example of the “worst case scenario” category for signings by the Yankees.
Montas has not been performing up to the standards that were set for him by the New York Yankees.
Overall, Yankees fans are upset with the team, and their anger is at its peak. Until July first week, fans were happy to see Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone putting together a team that dominated the AL table. But they are dismayed after the worst August performance of the Yankees.
The trade that Cashman made for Montas, who has not played to the level of excellence that was predicted of him, is likely one of Cashman’s worst moves. Doolittle wrote that the acquisition of the player is ending in disaster for New York.
On August 1, the Yankees acquired Montas and Lou Trivino from Oakland for four prospects. The trade was expected to boost the injury-hit pitching prowess of the team.
The Dominican pitcher previously threw for the White Sox and the A’s.
The right-handed pitcher has a record of 0-2 with a 7.01 earned run average with the Yankees in five starts. There is, of course, plenty of time left for Montas to find his rhythm with this new team.
However, the summer meltdown of the Yankees has led to hostile comments against team members.
If you compare Montas’ performance so far to what Jordan Montgomery has done with the St. Louis Cardinals, it might hurt a little more. In exchange for Golden Glove outfielder Harrison Bader, the Yankees traded the lefty pitcher to the Cardinals. But Bader is injured and won’t be back until at least the middle of September. In sharp contrast to him, Montgomery has an ERA of 1.76 and is 4-0 in five starts for St. Loius.
