After taking a three-week break due to a health issue, John Sterling is feeling well and looking forward to returning to work soon.

According to reports, the longtime radio voice of the Yankees, while at his New Jersey home on Monday night, stayed up late watching the Yankees game on YES. He expressed great enjoyment in witnessing Aaron Judge‘s exceptional performance against the Mariners, which he considered to be one for the ages.

During a phone conversation with NJ.com, John Sterling expressed his admiration for Aaron Judge’s home runs and remarkable catch, questioning how anyone could not love such displays of skill and athleticism.

John Sterling had intended to stay up late once again on Tuesday night to watch the Yankees’ game on the West Coast. The Yankees emerged victorious with a score of 10-2 against the Mariners.

John Sterling mentioned that he would describe his condition as nearly 100 percent.

After his triplet children’s college graduation, John Sterling took some time off from work. Following that, he began to feel unwell.

John Sterling mentioned that he had a case of bronchitis and expressed uncertainty about its impact. He acknowledged having a busy schedule with graduations and other commitments, which may have contributed to his condition. However, he appreciated the understanding and support of his program director and general manager. They advised him to take the week off and prepare for his return. Consequently, he planned to resume his broadcasting duties on Tuesday.

During the time John Sterling was unable to work, Justin Shackil stepped in to do the play-by-play commentary. He was accompanied by Suzyn Waldman, who provided color analysis.

Prior to the start of the season, Justin Shackil was designated as the regular backup for John Sterling, who intended to take some breaks during road trips. However, Shackil has ended up working 23 consecutive games as a fill-in, including the upcoming Yankees-Dodgers series in Los Angeles.

Until a few years ago, John Sterling had an impressive streak similar to Cal Ripken Jr. in baseball. In 1989, during Sterling’s first season as a Yankees broadcaster, he missed two games due to the passing of his sister. However, after that, he went on to work an incredible stretch of 5,060 consecutive regular-season and playoff games.

John Sterling is eagerly looking forward to returning to work. He continues to have a great passion for calling Yankees games and has no intentions of retiring, despite reaching the age of 85 on July 4.

He confidently stated that there were no issues with his health. John Sterling expressed his assurance that he would be fully recovered by Tuesday and would be able to cover the majority of the games. He also reminded everyone that upon his return, there would still be four months remaining in the year.

  1. While we New York Yankee fans love and admire John, I am nevertheless pleased that with Justin, Suzyn has a partner who responds to her analysis and comments. John rarely answers her! That I’ve found frustrating. And while I’m here, could someone ask the bullpen coach to actually watch the relievers? Harkey looks at the field, the dirt on the floor or anything but the pitchers! Also find that frustrating,,,and annoying honestly.
