Why Chris Bassitt fits the Yankees’ needs
Chris Bassitt, a right-handed pitcher, signed a three-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays after the 2022 season. His contract includes a limited no-trade clause, allowing him to designate eight teams each year to which he cannot be traded. This season, Bassitt has been solid on the mound, posting a 3.52 ERA across 19 starts with 100 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings pitched.
Before joining the Blue Jays, Bassitt had a notable season with the New York Mets in 2022. He maintained a 3.42 ERA over 30 starts, establishing himself as a reliable starter. His impressive performance made him one of the most sought-after free agents in the offseason.
Adding Bassitt to the Yankees’ rotation could provide the stability and experience they need. His consistent performance, ability to eat innings, and strikeout potential would be valuable assets as the Yankees aim for a playoff push. Furthermore, his familiarity with the New York market from his time with the Mets might ease his transition to the Bronx.
The limited no-trade clause in Bassitt’s contract could pose a challenge. If the Yankees are on his no-trade list, it would complicate any potential deal. Additionally, the Blue Jays might be reluctant to trade within the division, potentially making negotiations more complex.
