It’s been 43 years since Major League Baseball’s two most iconic franchises, the Yankees and Dodgers, faced off in a World Series. This long-awaited matchup has sparked incredible demand for tickets, sending prices to record-breaking levels. Fans in both New York and Los Angeles are eagerly anticipating the series, driving up the cost of attendance.

With the Yankees making their first World Series appearance since 2009, ticket prices in New York have surged. According to TickPick, the average ticket price for this year’s series has more than doubled from last year to over $1,700. This surpasses the previous record set in 2016 when the Chicago Cubs returned to the World Series for the first time in 71 years.

The cheapest seats for Game 1 in Los Angeles are priced around $975, but Yankees fans are facing even steeper costs. Demand for the games in the Bronx is 40% higher than in Los Angeles, according to StubHub. Game 3 at Yankee Stadium is poised to become the most expensive World Series game ever, with average prices nearing $2,000. Even standing-room tickets are fetching close to $1,500. Premium seats behind home plate or above the Yankees’ dugout are listed at over $20,000.

A dream matchup for Yankees fans

“These are two of the most storied franchises in all of sports,” said Jack Slingland, senior vice president of operations at TickPick to Crain’s NY Business. “It’s a dream matchup for many fans, and we’re seeing that reflected in the ticket prices.”

This will be the 12th time the Yankees and Dodgers meet in the World Series, their first showdown since 1981. The rivalry, which was especially fierce before the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1957, is being reignited on baseball’s biggest stage.

The incredible demand for 2024 World Series tickets is so high that prices for games in New York are on par with, or even more expensive than, tickets to Taylor Swift’s upcoming concert in New Orleans. This is a testament to the excitement surrounding the Yankees’ return to the Fall Classic and the historic nature of this matchup against the Dodgers.
