Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani has responded to recent comments made by New York Yankees slugger Juan Soto. Soto, when asked which MLB player he would most like to team up with, mentioned Ohtani as his top choice.
“To put it simply, I’m honored,” Ohtani said through Foul Territory following Tuesday night’s MLB All-Star Game at Globe Life Field.
Ohtani had a standout performance in the All-Star Game, hitting his first All-Star home run. This achievement made him the first player to secure a win and hit a home run in All-Star history, having been the American League’s starting and winning pitcher back in 2021. His three-run blast off Red Sox ace Tanner Houck gave the National League a 3-0 lead in the third inning, although they ultimately fell 5-3 to the American League.
What happened
Juan Soto also made a significant impact in the game, helping to erase the NL’s lead in the bottom of the third inning. He hit a two-run double off Giants pitcher Logan Webb, cutting the deficit to 3-2. This hit marked Soto as the sixth Yankee in All-Star Game history to hit a double and record at least two RBIs, according to MLB.com.
Soto, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, made his comment about Ohtani during Monday’s All-Star Media Day. When asked which MLB star he’d love to play with, he responded, “Ohtani would be one of the best. Now he went to the NL, and I went to the AL, so it’s been a little tricky, but definitely Ohtani would be one of them.”
