General manager Brian Cashman is expected to strengthen the bullpen and add infield reinforcements as his team aims to recover from their recent slump. Bolstering the bullpen will certainly be a priority, as the Yankees’ relievers posted a 5.10 ERA in June, the second-worst in baseball.

There may be another area where the Yankees seek reinforcements before the July 30 trade deadline. According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the Yankees are considering trading for a DH/outfield bat to protect themselves, despite Giancarlo Stanton’s anticipated return from a hamstring injury shortly after the All-Star break. Stanton, who was in the midst of a bounce-back period, has been out since June 23 with the injury.
“Even though Giancarlo Stanton should return from his hamstring injury “shortly” after the All-Star break, the Yankees know he’s a high risk for another injury, so they will consider trading for a DH/outfield bat as well to protect themselves.”
Manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Tuesday that Giancarlo Stanton could be “getting ready to play” after next week’s All-Star break. However, the team acknowledges Stanton’s high risk for another injury, prompting their consideration of additional DH/outfield options.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported earlier this week that the Yankees are expected to be one of the more “aggressive” teams at the trade deadline.

Me? I’d go after the Angels Carlos Estevez for the pen, and look around, internally or externally for some infield help. First step is to promote Tyler Hardman to AAA. Secondly, monitor both Peraza and Vivas in AAA. I would consider putting Spencer Jones in a deal, but only if they took Rodón and 75% of his salary – yes I’m talking about a deal for Crochet.
