Multi-talented Bernie Williams has many feathers to his cap and he is going to add another. The iconic New York Yankees figure has engaged in discussions about potentially joining the YES Network for broadcasts in the upcoming 2024 season, as reported by Andrew Marchand of The New York Post on Tuesday.
Marchand noted that preliminary talks occurred last week, suggesting that Bernie Williams might be considered as a candidate to enhance the pre-and-postgame show alongside Bob Lorenz and Jack Curry.
Bernie Williams remains a true to Yankees
From 1991 to 2006, Bernie Williams graced the Yankees with his presence, cultivating a career that endeared him to fans as one of the most cherished players to don the pinstripes.
A four-time World Series champion and five-time All-Star, Bernie Williams concluded his playing days with an impressive .297 batting average and .848 OPS, amassing 287 home runs, 1,257 RBI, 1,366 runs, and boasting a 49.6 WAR according to Baseball Reference. In recognition of his contributions, the Yankees retired his No. 51 in 2015.
Bernie Williams expressed sentiments of everlasting pride, per MLB.com stating that being a part of the Yankees tradition would remain a source of immense pride for the rest of his life. He conveyed his acknowledgment of the special significance of this fact, admitting that it was still challenging for him to fully grasp the magnitude of this honor.
“It’s something I’ll be proud of for the rest of my life,” he told. “To know that you’re a part of the Yankees tradition forever is special. It’s still hard to comprehend.”
At 55 years old, Bernie Williams has established himself not only as a former baseball icon but also as a skilled jazz/classical guitarist, having produced two albums. Additionally, he has ventured into the world of winemaking in recent years.
