Anthony Volpe‘s exit from Thursday night’s game against the Angels seemed to be a precautionary move, influenced by the rainy conditions and the uneven score. However, it was later clarified that he had been dealing with discomfort in his left foot.
Following the Yankees’ 9-4 loss to Los Angeles, manager Aaron Boone shared that X-rays on Anthony Volpe’s foot showed no fractures, diagnosing the injury as a contusion. Boone expressed confidence in the player’s recovery, noting that the young player was in good spirits and optimistic about returning to action soon.
The shortstop had accidentally fouled a ball off his front foot during his first at-bat in the second inning. Despite the injury, Anthony Volpe remained in the game for several innings before being replaced after a seventh-inning pop-out. Oswaldo Cabrera took over at shortstop in the eighth inning.
Anthony Volpe remains on a hot streak
The shortstop has been a mainstay in the Yankees‘ lineup this season, leading the team with 115 games played. His only previous absence came early in the season during a series in Houston against the Astros due to a stomach issue.
When asked about Anthony Volpe’s availability for Friday’s series opener against the Rangers, Boone was cautious but hopeful, pending the weather and the Baby Bomber’s recovery.
The 23-year-old shortstop has shown marked improvement since the All-Star break after a challenging first half. However, he has hit a minor slump recently, managing only two hits in his last 16 at-bats.
