There are other starting pitchers besides Jordan Montgomery and JP Sears who have found success after leaving the New York Yankees organization.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are beginning to see the best of Andrew Heaney since he joined the team. In six innings of work on Wednesday, he allowed only two runs while striking out ten Milwaukee Brewers batters and earning a 12-6 victory for his team.
After nine starts and 41 2/3 innings pitched, the left-handed starter has a 1.94 earned run average (ERA). This is Heaney’s first year playing for the Dodgers in his new role. During the 2021 season, he played for the New York Yankees; however, due to his poor performance, the team designated him for assignment prior to the American League Wild Card Game. He turned down the outright assignment that was offered to him, opted for free agency, and in November of 2021 signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers.
In 35.2 innings pitched for the Yankees, he allowed 13 home runs and had an earned run average of 7.32, which was the highest of his career. The Miami Marlins chose the then-31-year-old player in the Major League Baseball Draft in 2012, and he made his debut in the major leagues with the Marlins in 2014. After that, he was a member of the Los Angeles Angels from 2015 until 2021.
